Nephew, Tamburrino Repeat as Escarpment Trail Winners

Can’t anybody else win this race?

Ben Nephew, of Mansfield, MA won the Escarpment Trail run for the eleventh time in twelve years yesterday, 31 July.  His time was 2:53:17.  Evan Sparling came second with a time of 3:03:25.  Sparling’s time is all the more notable as he flew out from San Francisco CA on Friday night, dealing not only with the steep up and down of the trail but also with a five-hour time change.  Denis Mikhaylov of Garrison, NY was third in 3:11:02.

From Saint Catherine’s ON, Kristen Tamburrino was the women’s winner in 3:37:31, followed by past four-time winner Sheryl Wheeler in 3:47.  Bernadette Taylor placed third, in 4:20:10.

With minimal rainfall in the previous few weeks, the trail was firm and in good condition.  Finishing times were overall faster than in 2010.  Temperatures topped out in the low 80s, with a touch of humidity that increased during the race.

Full results will be posted on the Escarpment Trail Run website.
