Fischer Enters Rollerski Market in Norway; Will U.S. Be Far Behind?

Expanding from snow to pavement, Fischer will, uh, roll out a line of rollerskis in Norway this week, according to Langrenn.com.

Initially, Fischer’s Norwegian agent will offer skate and classic roller skis for adults and combi and skate skis for juniors, according to Roger Mohaugen.  The road boards will have aluminum frames with the same Aircore construction as Fischer’s snow skis.

The Langrenn.com article cites the benefits of roller skiing over running for athletes who may be experiencing joint problems as they age.  The story goes on to estimate that 14,000 to 20,000 pairs of rollerskis are sold each year in Norway.

At present, Fischer rollers will be sold exclusively in Norway.  Asked when they might be imported to the U.S., Peter Ashley, Fischer USA’s nordic division vice president replied, “Not in the near future, anyway.”  He asked a reporter to follow up with him in mid October.
