You’ll have to plan your training the week before Thanksgiving a little differently: The Kingston roller ski races in Kingston, NY have been cancelled for this year.
In a brief email, organizer Greg Malia wrote, “due to a number of things beyond my control, after 11 consecutive years, the Kingston Roller Ski Race will not be held this year.”
Over the years, the Kingston races attracted a wide cross section of northeast skiers, including high school teams, clubs, and lone wolf masters. Athletes came from as far as Bennington VT and Glens Falls NY to attend.
Kingston Nordic built a following with a program that included a 5 km classic, followed by a 10 km skate race. It wasn’t a pursuit format, one could sign up for one or both races. A third event was a 2 km novice race that one year attracted 14 entrants. They also worked hard to attract multiple sponsors to provide prizes, and they had a nice post-race meal provided by volunteers.

Malia didn’t elaborate on obstacles to the race, concluding, “We are planning on bringing it back next fall on Sunday, November 22, 2015 and I hope to see everyone there.”
